This session, hosted by UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry AC, will provide valuable context for the University’s Strategic Plan, examining the major forces shaping the future of higher education and UQ.

In a world shaped by artificial intelligence: Exploring the future of teaching and learning

This forum will unpack the transformative role of AI in pedagogy, curriculum design, and academic integrity. Key topics include how AI redefines student engagement, the evolving role of educators, ethical considerations, and the skills future graduates will need.

Campus (physical and virtual) of the future

As teaching, research, and technology evolve, so too must UQ’s campuses. This forum will explore how we can ensure our physical and virtual environments remain fit for purpose, safe, accessible, and equipped to meet the University’s future needs.

How can the University advance Indigenous agendas: Indigenous Intellectualism

This forum will explore the vital question: how can a university genuinely advance Indigenous agendas by elevating Indigenous Intellectualism—not merely including Indigenous perspectives, but actively developing and centring them as a foundational element of academic and cultural life?

Building futures: The next steps for The Queensland Commitment

This forum will explore how we can advance The Queensland Commitment Roadmap to advance educational equity and create lasting social impact. Key areas include strengthening student aspirations and preparedness, deepening partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, inspiring philanthropic support, and using data-driven decision-making to refine policies and processes.

Destination of choice: Unlocking research investment through partnerships

To strengthen UQ’s position as a destination of choice for investment—by governments, philanthropic organisations, industry, and communities, both locally and globally—we must foster strong, cross-sector collaboration. This forum will explore strategies to diversify research income and increase impact through partnerships that drive innovation and deliver public value.

From Queensland to the world: Exploring the role of UQ

Amid declining public trust, eroding social cohesion, and growing calls for universities to take a stand on global issues, the role of universities is widely debated. This forum will consider what UQ’s role should be in the broader world, what we uniquely offer, and what makes us proud to be part of UQ.

Fostering an enhanced research culture at UQ

This forum will focus on UQ’s research culture, emphasising excellence, integrity, diversity, and impact. Discussions will include supporting early and mid-career researchers, championing Indigenous-led research, advancing equity, and promoting research addressing complex societal challenges.

In a complex geopolitical landscape, international education remains central to UQ’s identity and impact. This forum will explore how we can foster a globally connected community by strengthening international partnerships and expanding student mobility—ensuring UQ continues to deliver a rich and relevant global learning experience.

UQ’s role in achieving societal impact and tackling global challenges through using co-creation, discipline excellence, and interdisciplinary research

This forum will explore how UQ can enhance support for research addressing complex societal and environmental challenges, particularly by bringing together our disciplinary depth and excellence with inter- and transdisciplinary approaches, co-creation and advancing pathways to research impact and translation.
